Canada proved to be too much for Belarus to handle at the IIHF World Championship on Thursday.
The Canadians scored in the opening minute of their four-goal first period then cruised to a 9-0 win in the teams’ quarterfinal matchup.
Devils prospect Artur Gavrus finished the tournament fourth on Belarus with five points (2g-3a) in eight games. He tied Andrei Kostitsyn for the team lead in shots with 20, including three in Thursday’s contest that matched a club high.
Tyler Sequin notched a hat trick for Team Canada, which moves on to face the winner of Finland-Czech Republic.
