Martin Brodeur started thinking about change in the middle of the 2017-18 season, when he was in his third year as assistant general manager of the St. Louis Blues.
Brodeur's contract was up in June, and when he talked to the Blues about continuing his role in hockey operations, he realized the time commitment needed would mean less time spent at home with his family.
That led to Brodeur's decision to leave St. Louis and make the jump to the business side of hockey in his return to the Devils. After being named executive vice president of business development on Wednesday, Brodeur sees a more stable schedule and the ability to grow his knowledge a different aspect of a hockey organization.
