7 observations from Devils' OT loss to Rangers | Why top line clicked; How Ty Smith handled PP

NEW YORK -- The Devils' preseason record dropped to 0-2-2 with another 4-3 overtime loss to the Rangers on Monday at Madison Square Garden.

Record aside, the Devils did show some strides in different areas of the game, and now with just two preseason games remaining before the results actually count, here are notes and observations on the Devils' top line, Ty Smith, Jesper Bratt, Eddie Lack and more.

The Devils' top line played like a top line should.

After shaking off a little rust in the first period, Taylor Hall, Nico Hischier and Kyle Palmieri clicked in the second and third, combining for all three Devils goals and seven total points between the three players.
