Bruce Arena has coached a lot of talented midfielders and Carles Gil ranks as one of the best.
“He’s an outstanding player,” Arena said after Tuesday’s 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Union. “I’ve had a lot of good midfield players or playmakers, and Carles is right up there with all of them.”
Gil’s talent is no secret. Signing as a Designated Player on Jan. 30, 2019, Gil made an instant impact, collecting 10 goals and 14 assists in his first MLS season. He was the team’s MVP and the league’s Newcomer of the Year.
His second year was marred by an injury, but he’s shown his quality when fully healthy.
