On Saturday, 36,573 fans filed into Gillette Stadium to watch the New England Revolution face the LA Galaxy. While many were obviously attending to cheer on their hometown team, others were hoping to get a glimpse at Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Unfortunately for that second group, Ibrahimovic didn’t even make the bench.
As has become the norm for superstars who join MLS, Ibrahimovic decided to skip playing in Foxboro. After the game, LA Galaxy head coach Sigi Schmid was asked about the decision and his response shouldn’t come as a response to anyone.
“Because of the turf,” Schmid said frankly to reporters.
