Friday night's game between the New England Revolution and New York Red Bulls was shrouded in controversy and the man in the middle for all of it was referee Mark Geiger.
In the 55th minute, the Revolution scored the game's only goal through Diego Fagundez. The tally came while Red Bulls defender Kemar Lawrence was on injured on the turf. It was a play that Jesse Marsch called "shameful" as he questioned the Revolution's honor. The coach also pondered why Geiger didn't stop play.
The World Cup referee offered the following post-game statement: "At the time, the injury did not appear serious.
