FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution II earned their first win of the 2020 preseason, defeating USL Championship side Hartford Athletic, 1-0, in a closed-door scrimmage at Gillette Stadium on Saturday.
New England midfielder Ryan Spaulding scored the game’s lone goal in the 31st minute, curling in a left-footed free-kick from just outside the box. Spaulding, 21, joined Revolution II in January from North Carolina FC of the USL Championship. He also played professionally at Stade Briochin in France, and two years at the collegiate level with UNC Charlotte. Forward Connor Presley, one of the first four players signed to the Revs II roster, registered a pair of efforts on target during the first half.
