When the Revolution drafted defender Jordan McCrary 10th overall in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, many fans expected him to fill a long-term hole along the back line. And this made sense: With McCrary and Chris Tierney starting out wide, Andrew Farrell could permanently move to center back.
But things didn’t quite turn out that way. McCrary never made a regular-season start for the Revs, and the club declined his contract in November.
No team selected McCrary—or any other player—in the ensuing waiver draft.
This winter, Toronto FC brought McCrary on trial.
