As halftime approached in Sunday’s 2-0 win over D.C. United, Revolution fans were stunned to see midfielder Matt Polster lie motionless on the pitch after going in for a tackle on a D.C. player.
In the 43rd minute of the match, D.C. United forward Yordy Reyna looked to push the ball upfield. Polster was looking to dive in and dispossess the ball from Reyna.
Yet, Polster was a second too late. As Reyna continued to advance the ball, the back of his cleat connected with Polster’s head.
Things intensified as D.C. players and medical staff immediately rushed over to Polster and began to treat the injured midfielder.
