Gershon Koffie ended speculation about his playing future on Sunday when he officially signed with Hammarby of Sweden. This is a return of sorts for the 25-year-old, as he spent time with the club while rehabbing a broken leg in 2009.
Koffie began his career in Ghana, playing four seasons with International Allies FC. In 2011, he signed with the Vancouver Whitecaps, where he collected nine goals and 11 assists in 133 appearances. The defensive midfielder was traded to the New England Revolution in 2016.
Koffie’s arrival to New England came with the understanding that the player was on the last year of his contract.
