FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Mark Segbers, selected 9th overall in the first round of this year’s MLS SuperDraft, will join USL side Orange County Soccer Club on loan, while the New England Revolution will have the right to recall Segbers at any time.
A four-year standout at the University of Wisconsin, Segbers was the second of the Revolution’s two first-round SuperDraft picks this year – selected one spot after Brandon Bye – and made three preseason appearances for the Revs, all off the bench, after recovering from a nagging injury.
Segbers did not appear in the Revolution’s 18-man match-day squad for the first two games of the regular season, and the 21-year-old’s loan to Orange County will be an important opportunity for the versatile right-sided player to get consistent minutes in game scenarios.
