Cam Newton joining the New England Patriots is very unlikely.
To begin, the team barely had enough cap space to sign their rookie class. New England is sitting at a league-low $651 thousand in cap space currently, with the second-lowest team (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) sitting at $4.22 million. Signing Joe Thuney to an extension would free up space, but there’s no rumors of that happening.
The second reason is that Newton has clearly expressed he wants to be a starter in this league. New England has Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer sitting atop the quarterback depth chart and Stidham is looking like he’ll be the starter.
