The New England Patriots fired head coach Jerod Mayo and let most of his staff go after their 2024 season finished with a 4-13 record. Those firings also included offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt who installed the offense that rookie quarterback Drake Maye learned in his first NFL season.
Entering 2025, the Patriots have hired Mike Vrabel as their new head coach and have brought back Josh McDaniels for a third stint as offensive coordinator in Foxboro.
McDaniels will be bringing his scheme (with some changes) back to New England, meaning Maye will have to learn a second system in two years, which can be harmful and slow down the progression of young quarterbacks.
