After finishing 2023 second-to-last in points scored and dead last in yards, the Carolina Panthers decided a change was necessary. They hired offensive coordinator Dave Canales away from their division rival Buccaneers to help build a new offense around former No. 1 overall pick quarterback Bryce Young. The Panthers will debut that offense on Thursday night without their second-year QB.
While the New England Patriots will be putting their young quarterback, Drake Maye, on the field Thursday night, the Canales announced the Panthers will not be doing the same. Head coach Dave Canales announced on Tuesday that Young will not play in the preseason opener as a precaution against injury.
