Week 17 Coaches on the hot seat - How bad will Black Monday be? (Shutdown Corner)

On Monday, members of the Shutdown Corner team circulated emails on the coaches who are most likely to find themselves unemployed next week, after their respective final games of the season. But on a list of seven names, Philadelphia Eagles’ coach Chip Kelly was not included.

On Tuesday night, though, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie shocked the NFL when it was announced that he’d “released” Kelly, cutting him loose before his third season in Philadelphia had ended, and less than a year after giving Kelly full control of the roster. In a press conference, Lurie acknowledged that it was a gamble to hire Kelly away from the University of Oregon three years ago, when he had no experience at the pro level, and the risk/reward proposition didn’t work out in the Eagles’ favor.
