Jacoby Brissett is in.
After much deliberation over the offseason, head coach Jerod Mayo chose the 31-year-old veteran to start the New England Patriots‘ first regular season game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Sept. 8 instead of flashy rookie Drake Maye.
“There were a lot of factors that led to this choice,” Mayo said in a press conference. “I think the hard part is thinking in the short term and the long term at the same time. As an organization, though, we feel like Jacoby gives us our best chance to win.”
Following their week one road trip with Brissett at the helm, the Pats will return home to Foxborough, MA’s Gillette Stadium on Sunday, Sept.
