Under first-year head coach Lou Saban, the newly formed Boston Patriots made their regular season debut during the inaugural year of the American Football League 60 years ago today.
On September 9th 1960, the Patriots kicked off at Boston University (Now-Nickerson) Field against the Denver Broncos.
The result was a 13-10 defeat but future AFL Hall of Famer Gino Cappelletti made his professional debut as a defensive back and placekicker alongside first overall draft pick, running back Ron Burton.
The Patriots would finish the 1960 season with a 5-9 record, a last place in the AFL’s Eastern division.
