With only 53 spots available, the New England Patriots will have to make some tough decisions between now and the NFL’s roster cutdown deadline on August 27. Among the toughest decisions is whether or not safety Dell Pettus is worth keeping around.
Pettus entered the league as a member of the Patriots’ undrafted free agency class earlier this offseason. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound defensive back had previously started 61 consecutive games during his five-year career at Troy, but he found himself at the bottom of one of the deepest position groups on the roster.
New England, after all, had some serious talent ahead of him on the safety depth chart.
