With Shane Vereen and Steven Ridley leaving the Patriots via free agency, Tyler Gaffney is looking to seize a spot in the backfield this summer.
Gaffney was a sixth-round draft pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2014, and when he tore his meniscus during training camp, they tried to sneak him through the waiver wires in an attempt to save a spot on their 90-man training camp roster. The Pats didn't turn a blind eye to it, and put in a claim to snatch up the running back. They put Gaffney on injured reserve for the season and told him to hit the books.
