Trevor Reilly promotion should lighten special-teams load on Chris Hogan

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots promoted linebacker Trevor Reilly from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, ESPN's Field Yates reports, which is a move that bolsters the team's special-teams units.

To make room for Reilly, the club is expected to move rookie linebacker Harvey Langi to the non-football injury list. The club has also signed nose tackle Mike Purcell to the practice squad to fill Reilly's spot.

Reilly had been on the Patriots' practice squad last year when the Dolphins signed him to their active roster. Bringing him back this year, Bill Belichick said, "We were never looking to move on from him in the first place, but he had a better opportunity and was able to play down there.
