‘Those guys work hard’: Patriots coach Jerod Mayo praises rookies, young players after win over Bears

New England’s youngest players stepped up in the Patriots’ 19-3 win over Chicago on Sunday, and coach Jerod Mayo was quick to praise their performances.

Among them was rookie quarterback Drake Maye, who went 15 of 25 for 184 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

“[Maye] still continues to go out there and make plays,” Mayo said. “He’s going to make mistakes, but this is part of his evolution, his growth and development.”

After Wednesday’s practice, Maye asked offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt if he could address the team, which Mayo said he thought showed great leadership from the rookie QB — though it wasn’t the first time.
