Free agent defensive tackle Terrance Knighton has informed the New England Patriots that he will be joining their team, according to ESPN's Dianna Russini.
Russini noted that nothing is signed at this time.
Knighton, a 354-pound run-stuffer, was choosing between New England and Washington, his team in the 2015 season. He'll fill a need for the Pats, who lost Akiem Hicks in free agency and opted not to re-sign restricted free agent Sealver Siliga.
Knighton hails from nearby Windsor, Conn. He grew up a Patriots fans. And Pats fans are plenty familiar with Knighton from his days as a Denver Bronco.
