Terrance Knighton released by New England Patriots: 'Just didn't work out,' Bill Belichick says

FOXBOROUGH — Perhaps the most surprising New England Patriots training camp cut came Monday morning, when the team parted ways with defensive tackle Terrance Knighton, according to multiple reports.

During his Monday press conference, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said the partnership between Knighton and the Patriots "just didn't work out."

"(Knighton) came in, worked hard, lost weight," Belichick said. "Got in good condition. Tried to do the things we asked him to do. Just other people ahead of him."

In the big picture, Knighton's release can certainly be viewed as a shocking development. When he signed with the team in April, most assumed he would have a major role.
