BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Sixteen years ago, John Madden told a national television audience that it would be wise for Tom Brady to take a knee.
Madden theorized that was the right move for Bill Belichick’s team for several reasons. The score was tied against the heavily favored St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. The Patriots had bad field position, no timeouts and the kid quarterback was, well, a kid.
It was a year ago yesterday that famous scene played out. Feb. 3, 2002. That’s when the Patriots played in that first storybook Super Bowl against the “Greatest Show on Turf.
