MINNEAPOLIS — Three years ago, Malcolm Butler made a game-saving interception to give the Patriots a victory over the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX.
Last night in Super Bowl LII, Butler never saw the field on defense.
The Patriots cornerback was surprisingly benched for the 41-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Butler did suit up, and played on special teams, but that was the extent of his action.
Butler’s absence was a coach’s decision, and Bill Belichick said it was not a disciplinary matter.
The cornerback opened the game on the sideline with Eric Rowe starting opposite starter Stephon Gilmore.
