Sunday Patriots Notes: Alex Van Pelt making his mark on New England’s offense

Training camp has come to and end for the New England Patriots, and now they are set to wrap up the preseason Sunday night.

In what has been — and will continue to be — a busy week for the Patriots, let’s open up the notebook in this week’s Sunday Patriots Notes.

1. Van Pelt’s mark: Bill Belichick was never afraid to zig when everyone else would zag during his NFL coaching career. His successors in New England — Eliot Wolf and Jerod Mayo — may have taken notice.

As the league has trended towards younger offensive minds in recent years, the Patriots’ offensive coordinator search this offseason went down a different route, as they hired 54-year old Alex Van Pelt, who comes to New England with nearly 30 years of NFL experience.
