Special teams captain Matthew Slater visiting the Steelers

Special teams captain Matthew Slater, who remains unsigned, was in Pittsburgh today visiting the Steelers, a source confirmed.

Just the thought of losing Slater, a 7-time Pro Bowler, is tough when you think about his significance on the field with the special teams unit, but also in the locker room. The 32-year-old veteran has been one of the Patriots long time captains and leaders behind the scenes.

Losing Slater would also be tough coming on the heels of already losing Nate Solder, Danny Amendola, Dion Lewis and Malcolm Butler, key cogs in the Patriots success, at the start of free agency.
