The Patriots have added another tight end to the fold, as they’ve signed tight end Fred Davis to a one-year deal, a source confirmed. Davis was recently reinstated to the league after serving a year-long suspension for a second violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.
Davis, who is 29, joins a group that features arguably the league’s best tight end in Rob Gronkowski, along with Scott Chandler, Tim Wright and sixth round pick A.J. Derby.
The veteran, a 2008 second round pick out of Southern California, played his entire career with the Redskins. His best year was in 2011 when he had 59 catches for 796 yards and three touchdowns.
