The Patriots have released wide receiver Leonard Hankerson, according to a source.
Hankerson was claimed off waivers from the Falcons nine days ago and didn't catch a pass in his debut against the Titans. It's unclear who the Patriots will promote from the practice squad to replace Hankerson.
However, if it's wide receiver Chris Harper, the transactions would be a sign Hankerson simply doesn't know enough of the playbook to contribute tomorrow against the Jets, and that's perfectly understandable. Hankerson has discussed the steep challenge of trying to learn the system on the fly, as he is about eight months behind other receivers on the roster.
