FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots added to their running back stable on Tuesday, announcing that they have signed former Cincinnati Bengals backup Rex Burkhead. The signing came one day after the 5-foot-10, 210-pound Burkhead visited the club, as he was described by former Patriots assistant to the coaching staff Michael Lombardi as "the perfect four-down Patriots running back." Expect Burkhead to compete for playing time on offense, and also be a core special-teams player.
Terms: Unannounced
ESPN 150 ranking: Unranked
Grade: B -- Burkhead, 26, might be an undervalued asset in the market as a result of him being buried on the depth chart behind Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard, but when he was given the chance to play on offense late last season, he performed well against some good run defenses.
