FOXBORO -- According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell has been placed on injured reserve.
The potential loss comes as a blow to the Patriots' wide receiver depth, yet also may shed light on why the team moved so quickly to trade quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts for receiver Phillip Dorsett.
CSNNE's Tom Curran also reported that offensive lineman Ted Karras has been promoted from the practice squad to fill Mitchell's spot on the 53-man roster.
Without Mitchell, the current depth chart at the position includes Chris Hogan, Brandin Cooks, Danny Amendola and Dorsett.
