NEW YORK — Barring an unexpected change, Drew Pomeranz won’t start another game for the Red Sox this season because of forearm soreness and a career-high innings total of 1691⁄3.
Henry Owens is to start in Pomeranz’ place Thursday in the series finale against the New York Yankees.
The Pomeranz decision crystalizes what was already obvious, given recent pitching performances. A four-man rotation for the postseason will include Rick Porcello, David Price, Clay Buchholz and Eduardo Rodriguez, in some order.
Pomeranz could return to the mound this season, but that would only be out of the bullpen, manager John Farrell said yesterday.
