Former New England Patriots exec Michael Lombardi has been a supporter of head coach Bill Belichick for a long time. Belichick tapped Lombardi to be his director of player personnel in Cleveland- similar to the Nick Caserio role in New England- and Lombardi has been singing Belichick’s praises ever since.
Well, when Belichick was fired from the Browns job, Lombardi was hired by the St. Louis Rams in 1996 to do research on finding a new head coach for 1997. Lombardi shared the story on Fox Sports 1.
“When I was out of the league one year, the Rams asked me to do a project,” Lombardi said.
