Once the National Football League approved its jersey number rules earlier this year, New England Patriots special teamer and running back Brandon Bolden became one of the first members of the team to take advantage of the rule.
Bolden elected to switch from his longtime number of 38 to 25 for the 2021 season.
As for his reasoning for the change? Bolden took to his Instagram account on Thursday and shared his explanation.
It turns out, Bolden wanted to pay tribute to his grandfather, Frank Pitts, a Super Bowl champion with the AFL’s Kansas City Chiefs in 1968.
