The New England Patriots half-heartedly acknowledged their weakness at the receiver position at the trade deadline. But they’ll definitely need to make a bigger splash at the position in the coming months.
With the fewest passing touchdowns in the NFL, the Patriots traded for Miami Dolphins receiver Isaiah Ford. They also added free agent receiver Donte Moncrief to the practice squad. It was a set of lukewarm moves that are unlikely to move the needle for quarterback Cam Newton, who looks unsupported in New England’s offense.
With Newton playing on a one-year deal, the quarterback position is just as uncertain as the receiver spot.
