Patriots waive rookie RB Trey Williams, work out two wide receivers

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots waived rookie running back Trey Williams on Thursday and worked out free-agent receivers DeAndre Carter and J.J. Worton.

Williams, of Texas A&M, was claimed on waivers from the Cowboys on Dec. 1. He was inactive for the team's 35-28 loss to the Eagles.

In claiming Williams, coach Bill Belichick said at the time, "“He can catch the ball out of the backfield, return kicks and can run the ball as well. He has some versatility as a running back, as a receiver, and as a returner.
