The Patriots have decided to move on from Chase Winovich.
Bill Belichick dealt the inconsistent edge rusher to the Browns for inside linebacker Mack Wilson on Tuesday morning, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Winovich was entering the final year of his rookie deal after three seasons in Foxborough.
The 2019 third-round pick never realized his potential with the Patriots, as it seemed he never earned Bill Belichick’s trust in setting the edge. That’s a pre-requisite for playing outside linebacker in New England. He was benched for the Wild Card loss in Buffalo, so that’s how far he’d fallen last season.
