FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots are placing running back Rex Burkhead and linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley on injured reserve, a league source confirmed to ESPN's Field Yates on Wednesday.
The Boston Globe first reported the decision to place Burkhead and Bentley on IR.
Also, the Patriots are signing free agent linebacker/defensive end John Simon, formerly of the Indianapolis Colts, a source told ESPN.
Burkhead, who was on the injury report with a concussion the week after a season-opening win over the Houston Texans, left Sunday night's loss against the Detroit Lions in the third quarter.
