Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has plenty incentive to play Sunday

FOXBORO — For the first time in Rob Gronkowski’s career, he has some financial incentive to play Sunday against the Texans.

Gronk has been hobbled by a groin injury this week, and the Patriots added to the uncertainty over his playing status by creating confusion with his involvement in practice. But because Gronkowski restructured his contract in the offseason, it’s worth pointing out the monetary impact of his on-field presence for this game and the final 13 of the regular season.

To revisit, the Patriots gave Gronkowski the potential to earn an extra $5.75 million through incentive clauses when the sides came to new terms in May.
