Patriots teammates remember James White as ‘a once in a lifetime player,’ after running back retires from NFL

FOXBOROUGH — On the day of the New England Patriots first preseason game of the 2022 season, three-time Super Bowl champion James White announced his retirement after eight seasons with the Patriots. While coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft released statements earlier in the day, many of White’s teammates spoke highly of the star running back after the game.

“I think he left a tremendous, tremendous legacy here,” Matthew Slater said. “Not just for what he did on the field. When I think about all the things we hope to embody here, all the things I have to embody as a dad, as a husband, as a teammate, as a friend, James embodied all of that.
