Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald is reporting that the Patriots and TE Michael Williams are closing in on an agreement regarding a new contract.
Williams, 26, is a former seventh-round pick of the Lions back in 2013. After two years in Detroit, the Lions traded him to the Patriots at the start of the 2015 season for a future seventh-round pick.
Williams is in the final year of his contract when he suffered torn ACL last summer and was subsequently placed on injured reserve
In 2015, Williams appeared in 15 games and recorded three receptions for 26 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
