Mass. General’s Mark D. Price is the new medical director for the Patriots, the team confirmed.
Price, who also serves as the Patriots team physician, specializes in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at MGH. He replaces former team medical director Dr. Matt Provencher, who left the team following the 2015 season to take a position at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado.
Price, a Harvard Medical School alum, also serves as the team physician for the Red Sox.
Like Provencher, Price is with the U.S. Navy Reserves. Price is a Commander who served in combat operations in Afghanistan, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in combat situations and for his innovation in outfitting the mobile hospital unit.
