The New England Patriots did not add a premier pass catcher for Drake Maye this offseason. However, Patriots insider Tom E. Curran revealed they did not even make a run at two of the league's best.
Davante Adams and DK Metcalf were both available this offseason. Metcalf ended up with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Adams with the Lops Angeles Rams. While both could have been assets for Maye, the Patriots thought they could actually hurt his development.
"The Patriots were exceedingly wary of the negative impact a demanding veteran wideout could have on Maye," wrote Curran.
