New England Patriots special teams coach Jeremy Springer spoke in depth about the kicker position when meeting with media members on Friday.
John Parker Romo is the only kicker currently on the Patriots' roster. Veteran Joey Slye was the starting kicker for the team last season after beating out Chad Ryland in training camp. However, Slye signed a deal with the Tennessee Titans in the offseason.
That has left the Patriots in need of a replacement.
Romo will have his chance to compete, but according to Springer, the Patriots have plans to either draft a kicker or sign an unrestricted free agent to the roster.
