Patriots should consider Antonio Cromartie

Now that the New York Jets have announced they are severing ties with veteran cornerback Antonio Cromartie, the New England Patriots should strongly consider signing the 10-year veteran.

Yes, Cromartie is on the downswing of his career. And yes, Cromartie had a pretty forgettable 2015 season. But the Patriots could use the services of a physical, 6-foot-2 cornerback, at least as competition in training camp.

Certainly, the Pats are in great shape at the two starting cornerback spots with Malcolm Butler and Logan Ryan. Cromartie could be used in some situations as the No. 3 corner in the Patriots’ nickel package they love to use so much; in that spot, Cromartie could cover big, athletic tight ends with his lengthy frame.
