With training camp and the preseason in the rearview, the New England Patriots have started the grueling process of trimming their 90-man roster down to 53 players.
They must be in compliance with the 53-man roster rule by the 4 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday, August 27.
The team has already started releasing players even before Sunday's preseason finale against the Washington Commanders. Veteran defensive tackle Mike Purcell was cut less than a month after signing with the team.
Numerous other players were released on Monday, and that number will only grow as the Patriots get closer to the deadline.
