The New England Patriots released tight end Bear Pascoe Monday, according to a report from WEEI.com's Christopher Price.
Pascoe, 30, did not have any catches in two preseason games, and was primarily considered a depth option as a blocking tight end. He is in his seventh season in the league, and has spent time with the Giants, Falcons and Lions.
However, with Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett in the starting lineup, AJ Derby emerging as a pass catcher and James Develin offering more versatility as a blocker, the tight end position is one of the most competitive ones on New England's roster.
