The New England Patriots are releasing wide receiver Devin Smith prior to the official start of training camp, a league source told the Boston Globe’s Jim McBride on Tuesday.
Smith, 29, signed to New England’s practice squad in December and later agreed to a futures contract after the season.
The 6-foot-1, 199-pound Ohio State product originally entered the league in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft with the New York Jets. After missing the entirety of 2017 and 2018 while working back from a second torn ACL in his right knee, Smith made stops with the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans.
