Patriots reportedly release quarterback Jake Dolegala after drafting Mac Jones

The New England Patriots quarterback room is starting to undergo change.

According to Mike Reiss of ESPN, the Patriots waived Jake Dolegala on Friday. This move comes less than 24 hours after the team selected quarterback Mac Jones with the 15th overall pick.

Dolegala, 24, originally joined the team on September 16, 2020 as a practice squad signee. He had two separate stints on the practice squad in 2020 before signing a futures contract with New England in January.

Initially entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2019 with the Cincinnati Bengals, Dolegala spent his entire rookie season on the Bengals 53-man roster serving as a backup to Andy Dalton and Ryan Finley.
