Mathew Sexton’s stint on the New England Patriots’ practice squad has ended one practice after it began.
The organization released the wide receiver to make room for the arrival of veteran kicker Matthew Wright, who took over the No. 47 jersey in his debut on Thursday, per the transaction wire.
Sexton, 26, had signed on Wednesday after visiting Gillette Stadium for a workout that included 13 free agents. He was most recently a member of the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad in September following a preseason that spanned five catches for 60 yards as well as time at kickoff and punt returner.
